Driving through southwestern Colorado on the famous Million Dollar Highway, just north of the New Mexico border, I watched the clouds roll in. The air shifted—cooler, heavier—hinting at the moody skies ahead. Gradually, as I gained elevation, pine trees thickened, and the open land transformed into layered hills.

Eventually, I pulled off the winding Million Dollar Highway outside Telluride. From there, I climbed over rocky terrain, heart pounding with anticipation. The San Juan Mountains, part of the larger Rocky Mountains range, stood tall in every direction. Their peaks, still dusted with spring snow, were once the backdrop of Colorado's booming gold and silver mining industry.

While setting up my camera, I paused. The wind whispered through alpine greenery, and the distant call of a hawk broke the silence. Above all, the view was overwhelming—jagged peaks piercing a gloomy sky, clouds hanging low as if weighing down the world.

I balanced my tripod on uneven ground, careful not to slip on the loose rocks. The wind made it tricky to keep steady. I waited patiently for the clouds to break just enough to let the light touch the peaks. Then, I pressed the shutter at just the right moment—when the scene felt alive.

Though the weather was unpredictable, that only added to the drama. Moreover, every passing minute brought shifting light and shadow across the summit line. It felt wild, untouched, and real—something you don’t just see, but feel in your chest.
