My husband and I have a wonderful tradition. On Christmas Day, we love to take a picturesque hike, away from the crowds. And to wof course hike off our Christmas Eve feast.

On this particular hike, my goal was to capture the essence of the Salton Sea from a unique perspective. As I climbed higher, my excitement grew. The trail was rough, scattered with rocks and boulders that looked as if they had been carefully arranged, enhancing the natural beauty of the scenery.

The highlight of my adventure, though, was a seemingly ordinary pile of stones. At first sight, it might seem like an average marker, but it was so much more. It stood proudly, each rock carefully balanced on the one below, challenging both gravity and the tough desert weather. It symbolized how people connect with nature, marking the presence of someone who stood here before, felt the same wonder, and left a piece of themselves behind.

Capturing this scene was no easy task. I adjusted my camera settings to capture the details of the rocks and the wide view behind them, making sure the lighting brought out their textures. I aimed to capture the photo in a way that showed the feeling of being alone and peaceful, and the connection between the earth, sky, stones, and sea.

As I clicked the shutter, I thought about the journey these stones had taken to end up here. Who had placed them? What stories did they carry? Every stone appeared to carry whispers of the past, adding to the mystery and charm of this place.

This stack of stones, overlooking the Salton Sea, isn't just a random collection of rocks.
