What’s so interesting about a warehouse with lots of barrels? It took me aback when I entered and saw the view that was before me. A surprising amount of wooden barrels which are set for use. This is where hot pepper sauce came into existence. All the barrels were cooperating in aging fiery Louisiana flavor.

Moving from one barrel to another I realized that each of them had its own history. They were like a team where each one contributed their effort to come up with the best hot sauce. The black and white color really stood out and highlighted all the features. The texture of the wood, the sturdy metal bands, and the way the barrels seemed to go on forever. It was simple but exuded a charm that was unmistakable.

Camera in hand, I took a photo. It was not one barrel that made the image, it was all of them. The play of light and the dark background further enhanced the scene. Each time I pressed the shutter button it was like I was documenting history and the uniqueness of this area.

After taking the photos, I realized something important: There was more to it than the barrels in the picture. I was looking at the tradition and craftsmanship that went into what they contain. Alone, each barrel is ordinary and not that special, but together, they turn into something extraordinary. They were helping build something that the people wanted—hot pepper sauce.

Being in that warehouse with hundreds of barrels, I felt at least something of what they were destined for. It's fascinating how barrels can convey a wide range of meanings when their presence is noticed. These barrels are also part of a greater narrative and each barrel has its role to play. One would have never thought that barrels are capable of being so alive.
