Oklahoma State Capitol Dome Print: Oklahoma City Architecture Photography

Midday heat bounced off the marble steps as I walked up to the Oklahoma State Capitol and set my tripod square to the front entrance. The dome rose clean against a deep blue sky, flanked by bright clouds and two flags lifting just enough in the breeze to show their color. Columns lined the facade in perfect rhythm, and the light was even enough to hold detail in the carvings without blowing out the stone.

I backed up until the entire width fit edge to edge, checked the level, then waited for a pause in foot traffic. The rustle of the flags, the hum of cicadas in the nearby trees, and the hollow echo of my footsteps on the plaza were the only sounds. When both flags unfurled and a small cloud softened the glare on the stairs, I made the frame.
