Any tour or the U.S. National Park system should include the amazing Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico. Famous for their kazillions of bats that energe at dusk, the big attraction is where the bats come out from… the iconic caverns themselves.

I was astonished by the underground beauty surrounding me, when I was in the middle of the Carlsbad Caverns. These formations which took millions of years to form are some of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. It's amazing to think that Carlsbad Caverns lie beneath our feet, hidden from the world above. However, one question was running through my mind: how could something so complex and beautiful remain hidden for a long time?

I raised my camera and aimed to capture the perfect shot. The stalactites that were hanging from the cave looked like waterfalls that had frozen in mid air. Each curve and ripple had its tale of water running and flowing down slowly over time, leaving these amazing formations. It was as if I was walking into a sculpture carved out with the hands of nature. When I finally clicked the photo I realized I was not just taking a picture of rocks, rather, I was capturing millions of years of the earth’s history in a single frame.

Just then, it hit me. The Caverns themselves are the main heroes of this story, quietly and steadily carving more shapes and wonders in the darkness. And the best part? They will continue to do so long after we’re gone. This made the environment to appear mysterious as if the walls had stories they were silently keeping to themselves.

As my flashlight highlighted the formations’ ridges I felt that I had to just step back and appreciate what I was seeing. The texture, details, and the very form was surreal. Truly, it was a masterpiece hidden away in New Mexico’s Carlsbad Caverns National Park. And getting to capture that moment with my camera feels like sharing a little of the world’s magic.

It made me wonder how something as small as a drop of water can create something so stunning. What other secrets might be hidden underground that’s just out of our sight? It's incredible to think how much more is out there, still forming, growing, and waiting to be discovered.
