I was at the Empire State Plaza, looking for the perfect angle to capture the Capitol. Amidst sleek modern buildings and quirky landmarks like The Egg, I couldn’t help but think how this stately building feels so out of place—but in the best way. Those red turrets and intricate stonework completely steal the show. It's like the Capitol isn’t competing with its neighbors; it’s leading them.

I set up my camera by the reflecting pool because, honestly, that view is irresistible. The Capitol’s reflection in the water made it look even more commanding, like it was rising to claim its space. As I adjusted my lens and crouched for the perfect frame, I couldn’t help noticing the clash of old and new. On one side, you have towering glass-and-concrete buildings. On the other side stands this masterpiece, proclaiming, "I’ve been here longer and I’ll be here long after you’re gone."

That’s what makes it special. The New York State Capitol is a reminder of time itself. Countless politicians, major events, and probably a fair share of drama have passed through the Capitol over the years. But it doesn’t flinch. It stands tall, weathering it all, telling anyone who looks at it that history has a way of sticking around.

As I snapped the shot, I thought about how different it is to photograph a building like this. It’s not just about getting a pretty picture; it’s about telling its story.
