What could we learn from standing face-to-face with the architectural majesty of Albany’s New York State Capitol? The legacy embedded in this Albany landmark is not only monumental but also enduring. This building, the New York Capitol, stands as a testimony to history, innovation, and the resilience of ideas.

When I set out to capture the state capitol in Albany, I knew it would be a challenge. While the building's grandeur demands respect, it also urges you to step back and take it all in. But through my lens, I wanted more than just a photo. I wanted a glimpse of its heartbeat—the story it silently shares with every visitor.

Standing there on the lush, vibrant green of Capitol Park, looking up, the view was overwhelming. The Capitol's distinct architectural style, with both detailed stonework and iconic towers, radiates strength. The design alone, a blend of Italian Renaissance alongside Romanesque Revival, speaks to its builders' ambition to create something unique. As I adjusted my camera, I framed the statue at the steps with the Capitol rising proudly behind. I realized the story was in those layers, each brick laid with purpose.

Built over three decades, the Capitol stands as a testament not only to vision but also to perseverance. The building’s construction spanned from 1867 to 1899, enduring changes in politics, architecture, and even architects. The New York State Capitol took on the personality of each era as well as each leader. This resulted in a building that feels alive, standing guard over New York’s capital.

I pressed the shutter, capturing the moment, as I did, I felt part of its ongoing legacy. Each photograph created a connection to the people who designed, built, and walked its halls over the years. And with every visitor who stands in awe, the Capitol’s story continues, becoming stronger with each passing day.
