Hoodoo Passage: Queen’s Garden Trail Bryce Canyon National Park UT Wall Art

Hoodoo Passage captures what it feels like to walk the Queen’s Garden Trail inside Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. I photographed this section where towering orange hoodoos and rugged rock walls rise on both sides of the trail, creating a narrow passage through the canyon. Instead of seeing Bryce Canyon from an overlook, I was surrounded by the formations themselves, with their warm orange tones, rough textures, and unusual shapes filling nearly the entire frame. A patch of blue sky above provides a beautiful contrast with the rock below.

What drew me to this composition was the feeling of being enclosed by the canyon while still having a clear path forward. Massive formations dominate both sides, and the trail climbs through the center toward another group of hoodoos in the distance. The hikers along the route are tiny compared with the surrounding rock towers, providing an immediate sense of scale. From this lower perspective, the formations feel even taller and more dramatic than they do when viewed from the rim.

For me, Hoodoo Passage shows why hiking into Bryce Canyon offers such a different experience from simply viewing it from above. The Queen’s Garden Trail brings you directly among the hoodoos, where the shapes, textures, and layers of the rock become much easier to appreciate. This photograph preserves the feeling of moving through that rugged Utah landscape with towering formations on every side and only a narrow opening of blue sky overhead.
