Seattle Sailboat Print: Shilshole Bay Marina, Puget Sound Coastal Decor

Cold March air cut across Puget Sound while I stood at Shilshole Bay Marina with numb fingers on the shutter. A single sailboat drifted in the channel, barely moving, and the surface of the water went glassy between light ripples. The sky was a layered gray, heavy with mist, so I chose to work in black and white to let tone and texture carry the scene instead of weak color.

I set a longer exposure to smooth the water just enough, then waited for the boat to settle in a clean spot away from background distractions. The shoreline sat as a soft band on the horizon, trees and low buildings reduced to silhouettes. Gull calls came and went, and the only constant sound was the quiet slap of water against hull.
